| Comments | : | I'm an AIO in the Faculty of Biology (work group vegetation
ecology), and I've been coming to the Netherlands since 1994. Sometimes whilst sitting
at lunch or dinner with my colleagues, the conversation switchs to dutch and stays
that way for a long time. During these times, I'm either looking at my toes or trying
not to fall asleep. Of course they don't notice it, but sometimes I think it's actually
rude. I know that it difficult for my colleagues to speak English all the time, so
I've decided to learn dutch, so that I can understand what's happening around me.
At the moment I can have a simple (and very simple) conversation in dutch. I learn a lot from the subtitles of movies, and I read the newspapers and look at the dutch news. I can understand and even write dutch much much better than I can speak it. It's great to meet people with the same desire to learn this complex and challenging language. Maybe someday we can all have a hearty conversation in dutch Tot ziens |
