(Dutch mixed with Indonesian, Portuguesse, Chinese, German, & French) We immigrated to Long Beach, California in 1962. That's where I grew up speaking Dutch at home. I taught my self to read with lots of difficulties, maar nu kan ik het wal als het moet. (but now I can if I have to) When I joined the U.S. Marines I was stationed in Japan and learned to speak conversational Japanese. I found that I had thing for languages. I also can speak a little Indonesian, German, and even Tagalog. If you really want to, and if you put your heart and soul into it, you can learn Dutch too. I think every Country should have the same kind of policy towards soft drugs. I don't think that everybody should smoke pot, but I think that everybody should have the choice of doing it when it doesn't hurt anybody. Amsterdam is a great place; there is no perfect place, but this city is the closest humanity was able to get this far. Let's do the same in London, Rio de Janeiro, Berlin, Vancouver (almost there!), Paris, New York, Rome and Philadelphia. We can do it, in peace and with lots of love. Life is so good... And I want to learn Dutch because everytime I visit the Netherlands I want to learn more and more about the culture of such a smart country!
